With profound sadness and heavy hearts we share the news of the passing of a beloved movement leader and comrade Njoki Njehû, who passed away peacefully at home in Nairobi on the morning of Saturday 18th July. Her role in building Fight Inequality Alliance, among her many other achievements as a leading Pan African feminist over many decades means her loss is felt across our whole movement, even as her legacy endures.
The biggest oil companies on earth have just reported their profits for the last three months, and the numbers are staggering. They come from a spike in the price of oil, driven by wars in Iran and Ukraine, that pushed up the cost of filling a tank and heating a home. Your bills went up. Their profits went up. These are not two separate stories. They are the same money, moving between two pockets. You paid for the war at the pump and in your bills.
Fight Inequality Alliance (FIA) Pakistan stands in solidarity with people of Azad Kashmir region who are demanding action on increases in the cost of flour, electricity, and sharing of profits from the region’s hydropower. FIA is concerned with reports in the Guardian and elsewhere that more than 30 people were killed during a peaceful march Monday 28 June. The internet has been shut down in the region.
Millions of Mexicans took to the streets, filled public squares, improvised screens, and celebrated with strangers as if we had known each other all our lives. Isn’t that, in the end, the dream of any community? We did not watch the tournament in the stadiums, we watched in the streets, in public squares, in markets, in homes — that is where we felt the world cup truly was. The people’s World Cup, not FIFA’s.
